Rajasthan has more sun and wind than it can use, and the demand sits a thousand kilometres away. Power Grid has named GE Vernova T&D India the lowest bidder to design and build a 6,000 MW, 800 kV direct-current terminal station to move renewable power from Barmer II in Rajasthan to South Kalamb. Direct current loses far less over long distances. Lowest bidder is not a signed contract yet.
