Eastern India gets a big new source of steady electricity. State-run SJVN has commissioned the second 660 MW unit of its Buxar thermal power plant in Bihar, taking the project to its full 1,320 MW. More generation means fewer shortages and more dependable supply for homes, farms and factories across the region. It is coal-based power, so the gains come with the usual emissions trade-off.
