Aluminium smelting is one of the most electricity-hungry things a country does, so a more efficient furnace saves real power. NALCO, under the Ministry of Mines, has licensed Emirates Global Aluminium's DX+ Ultra smelting technology for a 0.5 million tonne a year expansion at Anugola in Odisha, taking it towards a million tonnes in all. EGA supplies the designs and know-how; the plant still has to be built.
