From Old to Gold: Discovery Could Stop Age-Related Blood Issues
As we age, our blood stem cells start acting like "broken machines," dividing too fast and making the wrong cells. This increases our risk of disease. University of Illinois Chicago researchers found a protein called PF4 acts as a "safety brake" to keep these cells calm. We lose this protein as we get older, causing cells to spiral out of control. By reintroducing PF4, scientists "rebooted" old cells, making them act young and strong again. This breakthrough could lead to new treatments that keep our immune systems powerful even as we age.
