Varanasi faced a serious water shortage because people were pumping out too much groundwater without refilling it. To solve this, IAS officer Himanshu Nagpal made companies install rainwater harvesting systems on 1,000 public buildings like schools. He also cleaned a 30km river and built hundreds of ponds. As a result, the water level rose significantly, giving farmers more water for crops and providing villagers with cleaner water, which helped reduce diseases in the area.
