Deforestation has created a major problem where slow-growing forests fail to trap enough carbon, leaving nearly 0.7 billion tonnes of CO2 in the air each year. Scientists found a solution in soil nitrogen, which helps tropical trees grow twice as fast. Instead of using chemical fertilizers, they recommend planting legumes to naturally enrich the earth. This offers a huge benefit to the planet by speeding up forest recovery and capturing massive amounts of greenhouse gases to slow down global warming.
