Many villages in Maharashtra (like those near Pune) run out of water in the summer. Old dams and lakes get filled with mud (silt) over many years, so they can’t hold enough rainwater. This causes crops to die and farmers to lose money. Tata Motors is working with the government to clean out 1,500 more lakes and dams. They use big machines to dig out the old mud. They then give this special, rich mud to the farmers to put on their fields for free. The clean lakes can now hold much more water for the whole year. Farmers can grow more crops, families have plenty of drinking water, and the ground stays green and healthy.
