In Vidarbha’s Amravati district, severe droughts forced farmers to uproot their dying orange orchards as wells ran dry. To solve this, farmer Amol Langote began building low-cost check dams made of sand and stone along the Purna River. By redirecting funds from festivals into these structures, he created a way to trap monsoon water and recharge underground aquifers. This persistent effort has revived groundwater levels across six villages, ensuring that wells stay filled until June and providing long-term water security for thousands of people.
