New Stem Cell Therapy: A Breakthrough in Restoring Lost Sight

Scientists at the University of Michigan have achieved a breakthrough using stem cell transplants to restore sight. AMD (Age-Related Macular Degeneration) is a condition for those over 60 that destroys central vision, making it hard to read or recognize faces. In a new trial, patients with advanced "dry" AMD received adult stem cells to replace dying eye cells. The treatment proved safe and helped patients read 21 more letters on average, offering the first real hope to reverse vision loss.
