MIT’s Sodium Fuel Cell: A Weightless Power Boost for Clean Flight
The problem is that today's batteries are too heavy for planes, making electric flight almost impossible. Lithium-ion batteries used in cars just don't have enough power for their weight. The solution is a new fuel cell from MIT that uses liquid sodium and air. It is very lightweight and holds three times more energy than regular batteries. This benefits people by making clean, carbon-free regional flights and shipping a reality. Even better, the waste it produces naturally traps harmful CO2 and helps clean our oceans, making it a powerful tool to fight climate change while we travel.
