Los Angeles imports nearly 90% of its water while billions of gallons of stormwater flow unused into the ocean every year. To address this, the $95 million Safe Clean Water Program is building green infrastructure such as rain gardens, bioswales, and wetland parks to capture and filter rainwater. The stored water will recharge local groundwater supplies. This project will provide cleaner beaches, create community parks, and reduce dependence on imported water, with a goal of doubling stormwater capture by 2035.
