Engineering designed and built in India is going into machines sold in Europe and North America. Kirloskar Oil Engines has agreed a tie-up with Germany's DEUTZ under which its R550 platform — a three-cylinder engine of 18 to 41.2 kW — will be offered through DEUTZ's global network. It meets EU Stage V, EPA and CARB Tier 4 emission rules, so it can be sold in strict markets. Skilled design and factory work stays here, and export earnings follow.
