A pleasant surprise in Kerala's waste management comes from Pelican Kentera Pvt. Ltd., a startup founded by pharma scientist C. N. Manoj. This company manages waste for around 200 apartment complexes by collecting sorted trash door-to-door, sending plastics for recycling, and treating biomedical waste. The key innovation is an on-site composting unit that uses Dr. Manoj’s fungal-based inoculum, called Composorb, to efficiently convert biodegradable waste into excellent organic fertilizer.
