To address high unemployment rates, which persist as a significant challenge despite a recent decline to 16%, the Jordanian Ministry of Labour has implemented a suspension on most foreign labor recruitment effective June 1, 2026. By freezing new foreign work permits—while strategically excluding essential roles such as domestic work, textiles, and high-skill positions—the government aims to better regulate the market. This initiative is designed to expand employment opportunities for local job seekers and foster long-term workforce development within the country.
