Digital fraud and "digital arrest" scams are a major problem in India, causing losses of nearly ₹3,000 crore as scammers use fear to trick victims. To provide a solution, the government is planning a "kill switch" in bank and UPI apps that instantly freezes all transactions during a crisis. This provides a vital benefit by giving users a panic button to stop money from leaving their accounts, buying time to verify the situation and preventing life-changing financial loss.
