India is building more of its own warships instead of buying them abroad. Cochin Shipyard has laid the keel for the Navy's first Next-Generation Missile Vessel, the start of a Rs 9,804 crore programme to build six stealth missile ships at home. It means skilled shipbuilding jobs, a stronger home-grown defence industry, and money that stays in the country rather than going to foreign yards.
