The OCEAN initiative by Gokhale Institute addresses toxic oil dumping on the Konkan coast. By implementing a circular economy, it trains local youth to collect waste engine oil and sell it to licensed recyclers. This turns an "invisible threat" into a financial gain for fishermen. To date, over 2,800 litres of toxic oil have been prevented from entering the sea, ensuring cleaner waters, providing extra income for locals, and securing healthier, toxin-free seafood for the entire community.
